Registration for all language courses starts on Monday 19 December 2011 at 18.00. Please check our web pages for other courses.

How can I register?
Please call 044 553 8451 or 044 553 8414 or register via the Internet service available 24 hrs a day www.ahjola.fi/kansalaisopisto. Upon registration you will need to provide your social security number and your contact information. For the time being, the e-form is in Finnish only. Please call one of the above numbers if you need help or prefer to register over the phone.

Please note that all Finnish courses (with the exception of Finnish for Beginners A and B) are taught in Finnish from the beginning. However, the teachers do speak English and will be able to clarify any misunderstandings that may occur.

This intensive beginner-level course is designed for those who have recently arrived in Finland. The course is practically oriented and focuses on everyday language use and skills, ie. ‘survival’ Finnish. The content of the course is tailored to meet the needs of the participants. The tuition language is English, and course materials will be provided by the teacher. All students will be given a certificate of attendance at the end of the course.

Finnish for beginners is a one-term course consisting of 4 weekly lessons, 2 lessons at a time. The course is taught in Finnish from the very beginning. The course content is basic functional topics (greetings, introductions, service encounters, talking about work and leisure, etc.) coupled with relevant grammatical structures. This is the second term of a two-term course in the basics of Finnish: pronunciation, vocabulary, spoken and structural skills. The course consists of 5 weekly lessons (2 on Tue, 3 on Thu), and is a good choice for eg. those who participated in Finnish for beginners A and B in the autumn term. In order to reach the target level (A 2) the students need to have good study skills and should be prepared to engage in private study between the taught sessions. Course book: Hyvin menee! 1. There will be a revision session of the core grammar and vocabulary of chapters 1-10 of the textbook at the beginning of the term, after which the course continues from chapter 11.

This elementary level Finnish course is intended for both immigrant men and women. The course content is tailored to meet the everyday communicative needs of the participants, who may also participate in an activity group at Pelipuisto Parish Hall (Teekkarinkatu 17) on Tuesdays at 12.00-14.00. The activities include visits to nearby places of interest. There is no course fee but the participants may need to pay small sums of money such as bus fares etc. on field trips. Please register with the teacher at Hervannan Ässäkodit on the first day of the course.
